Tips to Prepare for Your Custom Design Service

May 11, 2022

When you make the decision to build a custom new construction home, the process of designing it is one of the most exciting factors. At Weston Dean Custom Homes, our team has worked for years within the Texas hill country, helping our clients build homes that they’ve always dreamed about living in—so we’ve listed out a few tips for you to prepare to ensure that your design process is everything you hoped it would be.

Beginning meetings

First, we’ll begin with our lot meeting where we walk through your chosen lot and see how we can best design your home based on the land. In this, you’ll talk us through your initial ideas and hopes about where you want your home placed. Before we get to the day of the meeting, it’s best to think about where you might like specific rooms to be positioned based on the views you would like and also taking the position of the sunrise and sunset into account. We’ll offer our own suggestions on where the home could be placed based on cost, topography, flatwork distance and drainage patterns.

After we’re finished at your lot, our next step will be to set up the concept meeting—this is where we can truly start seeing your dream home come to life. Before coming to this meeting, try and get together a few pictures, magazine clippings or anything you can think of that will help us understand what sort of design elements you like best and what you would like to try and include into your own home.

Starting the design process

After we have our brainstorming session complete with the concept meeting, it’s time to start the actual design process. We’ll begin drafting your custom floor plan or begin modifying one of our floor plans if you have chosen to go that route. During this process, we encourage our clients to visit some of our model homes before we meet again so you can see the flow of the homes and decide if there is anything you’d like to make sure is included within your own. During the revision meetings, we’ll then make any changes to your own floor plan as necessary.

After the floor plan is finalized, we’ll then take you through our finishes questionnaire. This is another aspect of the process that helps if you have some design inspiration ready beforehand so you can pick out what sort of features and finishes you would like throughout your home. Our expert designers will be on hand to offer their professional opinion on the countertops, cabinets, appliances, flooring and so much more until your home has truly come to life.

Entrusting our team

Finally, once the design elements are complete, we’ll take you through the cost proposal to go through each and every aspect of your home so nothing comes as a surprise to you before finalizing the contract and beginning the construction of your home.

At Weston Dean Custom Homes, we love helping our homeowners realize their dream lives in their new custom homes—and we can’t wait to do the same for you. If you’re ready to begin your journey today, give us a call at (210) 408-9107 or fill out our online form.
