Luxury Laundry Room Trends for Custom Homes

June 29, 2021

Even though they are often overlooked in custom home design, laundry rooms can be an eye-catching and functional centerpiece in new homes. Current trends include adding built-in features that speed up the cleaning routine and make the most of the space by adding more flexibility than ever before.

With these in mind, Weston Dean Custom Homes can help design luxury laundry rooms that meet the unique needs of San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country homeowners.

Simplify your routine

Do you dread folding or always forget to hang your button-ups? This is a chance to make the laundry room work for you. Consider your workflow and add in elements that will simplify the process like a drying rack, folding table or ironing board. Make sure that your cleaning supplies like detergent and dryer sheets also have a designated place within reach as well. Depending on your needs, adding a deep sink to soak and remove stains before washing could be a good idea too.

Make it multi-purpose

If you have an active family, it may be wise to consider combining a few different tasks in the space. For example, it could also serve as a mudroom for backpacks and coats, a pet grooming station or storage for lawn and garden supplies. This is especially convenient if the laundry room is located near the garage and a secondary entrance to the home. For all of these options, plan ahead with features like built-in shelving and hooks that keep the space organized. Coordinated baskets for seasonal supplies like hats and gloves may also be useful.

If you are adding larger elements, consider stacking the washer and dryer or using front-loading units that allow for more functional space directly above them.

Have fun with flooring

Since they are traditionally small spaces, laundry rooms provide an opportunity for easy personalization with distinct flooring. Durable materials like tile, luxury vinyl and painted concrete are able to facilitate the heavy appliances and offer several style options. Concrete gets extra points for being waterproof. Do not be afraid to pick something unique that does not directly match other flooring in the home.

Pick a signature light fixture

Another fun way to add some excitement to the laundry room is to pick a signature light fixture. Not only will this make the space a little more welcoming than traditional fluorescents, but it can help you examine clothes a little closer for stains too. Recessed and under-cabinet lights are also useful for digging through storage.
