Can you save money while spring cleaning?

June 17, 2016

Save money spring cleaning Save money spring cleaning As the summer season approaches next week and you find yourself yet to get around to your spring cleaning to-do list, that might not be a bad thing. Did you know you there are ways you can actually save yourself money when you do your spring cleaning? Weston Dean Custom Homes, a premier Boerne custom home builder, shares cleaning tips that could put money back into your pocket. As you tackle your spring cleaning projects, there are some things around your home you should consider tossing out in the process. These are things that don’t necessarily need to go because of the space they take up, rather because they could be costing you more money than they need to be.  Begin to say goodbye to some of your old stuff to prevent creating a hole in your wallet. The first spring cleaning tip is to ditch all of your ancient electrical items and appliances. While some people may live for the newest and greatest gadgets, several people hold onto their old ones just as tight and use them just as much. A recent study done by Energy.gov showed that appliances account for 13 percent of your household’s energy costs. That cost is even higher, if you don’t have EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Energy-Star compliant items. A few of the worst offenders in this category include: dishwashers, air conditioners, washers and dryers. If your beloved gadgets are more than 5 years old or your appliances aren’t Energy-Star certified, consider tossing or replacing them this spring. Another spring cleaning tip is to reconsider any magazine subscriptions you may still get monthly, and get them digitally instead. On average, around 14 million people still subscribe to news magazines that come in the mail each month. This number is less than it was 10 years ago, as more people convert to the digital option. However, in addition to causing you massive clutter as those subscriptions stack up around your home each month, you can also save yourself well over $600 per year, for a magazine averaging $3.99 per issue if you grab just three each week. Not only is converting to digital cheaper, it’s also more environmentally friendly. The last spring cleaning tip is for women and often something no woman wants to come to terms with. There are few things worse than having to replace items from your makeup bag, but it truly is an important thing to put on your spring cleaning list. Not only does old makeup lose its potency over time, it will often cause you to spend more to compensate for it over time. Not only that, but makeup oxidizes and degrades the minute you open the packaging. After a couple of months, your makeup can accumulate bacterial and fungal growth. So, be sure to do yourself and your wallet a favor and throw out anything that is more than a couple months old. This way you can protect bacterial from not only wrecking your skin, but your annual beauty budget. These simple tips will not only benefit you from a cleanliness standpoint in your home but can also save you money as well!       Weston Dean Homes is a San Antonio area custom home builder.  For more information call (210) 408-910
