Building a Traditional Style Home

June 8, 2021

The wants and needs of San Antonio homebuyers are constantly changing. Some want wide, open floor plans that are primed for entertaining. Others want designated spaces that allow a seamless transition from an office to a playroom or anything in between. Either way, traditional architecture provides a reliable solution for modern families.

Weston Dean Custom Homes has embraced the traditional style with floor plans, exterior options, and indoor finishes to bring your dream home to life.

Influenced by centuries of design

Definitions differ for traditional architecture, but at Weston Dean Custom Homes it refers to a style of home design developed to facilitate modern living without the modern style of architecture. This has allowed builders to adapt the style over time -- taking inspiration from both local and national trends -- without compromising the main tenants.

This style is also known as vernacular architecture which means that it utilizes locally available resources and materials to support the community where it is built while respecting tradition. Although a little vague, this sentiment shows through the use of stucco and horizontal wood siding in the San Antonio area which are durable and attractive. Builders will often add flat or metal roofs as well to finish the look.

Modern interiors, classic exteriors

Traditional style architecture takes inspiration from the 18th and 19th centuries as well as European decor. Designs are consistent and often use symmetry to create an orderly appearance. From the curb, homes will stand out with crisp, clean lines and columns that guide the eye. Porches, covered entryways, and large windows of full plate glass that allow natural light into the home are more popular additions.

Inside a traditional home, you can find an array of features from gourmet kitchens to flex rooms and smartly designed built-ins that can help keep families operating smoothly through busy days. The primary purpose of the traditional style is functionality.
