Each year at years’ end, design enthusiasts wait anxiously for the announcement of the coming years Pantone color of the year. So, what shade does 2018 have in store that we can plan to see popping up all over the place? If you are a fan of purple, you are in luck for next year. The official 2018 Pantone color will be Ultra Violet. Weston Dean Custom Homes, a premier Boerne custom homebuilder, shares insight behind this powerful hue.
Ultra Violet was chosen, as it is a shade that prompts a passionate discussion among those who are enthusiastic about design, as well as professional designers in the industry. The color was chosen to showcase originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking.
Most people may not even realize the power that the pantone color of the year has in design across the board. For example, in 2016 Rose Quartz was the Pantone color of the year and it brought about a Millennial favorite in a light pink hue that is still a powerful staple in today’s home design as well as fashion.
You can expect to see 2018’s Pantone color of the year in things like logos, packaging and product details. You will also see it in interior design elements of the home and fashion as well. The design industry whether it is fashion or home décor, uses the Pantone color of the year as a heavy influence in that year’s design trends.
The 2018 Pantone color choice will be an interesting year, when it comes to how it is accepted amongst the design industry. Purple is known to be a divisive color. People typically either love it or hate it, and normally to an extreme extent. Being able to incorporate purple in home design, will not be for everyone and that is where the challenge will lie with this color choice to come.
In addition to Ultra Violet, the 2018 Pantone home and interior colors include an array of what is considered “lollipop” colors. Bright yellows, teals, orange and red hues would be perfect for a kids room but may be hard to incorporate into other areas of the home, unless you have more eccentric taste.
If you aren’t much into the bright hues, the other end of the spectrum are more discrete colors.
Think of these as naturals like gray, off-white, camel and taupe. “Greige” (gray-beige) is also a fun new phenomenon along with blush colors.
So how can you use the Pantone color palette in your home for 2018? Consider saving the bold Pantone colors, like Ultra Violet, for accent pieces. You could paint some of your entryway pots this color, or find some fun throw pillows to add that pop of color to any room. Be careful not to go too extreme, and decide to paint the exterior of your home the Pantone color of the year. Those are always better off left on the neutral side, as bright hues on home exteriors and offend some people. Consider just painting your front door instead!
