Spring is right around the corner and it is no wonder that whole house cleaning has been so frequently relegated to the Springtime months. After being cooped up all throughout winter (or possibly just a few weeks), we're anxious to get up, move around, and go outside. Fact of the matter is, in our seasonal lethargy, we may not have felt ready or willing to make some major changes to our homes. But a thorough or nearly so trip around the house with a cloth in one hand and a bucket in the other is sometimes all the motivation we need to get up, moving, and perhaps burn a couple of calories in our mission to tidy our house. Weston Dean Custom Homes, a premier New Braunfels custom homebuilder
, shares some tips that Home Depot shared as ways to get motivated to tackle your Spring cleaning projects!
Staying focused is easier said than done, and depending on how things may have gotten away from us over time, the drive to keep pressing forward may be more elusive than we'd anticipated. However, it can be done, and we believe in you!
First of all, a little musical motivation goes a long way. Turn up some music or put on headphones, let your computer run through your upbeat playlist, stream music through a smartphone app, or even turn on the local radio to help you enjoy yourself just a bit more. (As far as we can tell, dancing with the vacuum cleaner probably makes it work 10 times better!)
There are a few different ways to accomplish your goal of a clean home. You can start in one room and work your way through the rooms by floor, or if you'd rather, you can hit up the same kinds
of rooms all at once and split it up that way. For instance, it may be beneficial to hit all the bathrooms at once once you're in that mode. Even better, you can multitask by running laundry load of towels, bath mats, and washcloths. If you've got a couple of extra hands and offers to help, divide and conquer and it should be done in no time at all.
We at Weston Dean Custom Homes are committed to green building and living, and are fully in support of environmentally friendly cleaning products, whether they're a reputable store-bought brand or if you try your hand at a thrifty DIY cleaner of distilled white vinegar, for instance. Other natural cleaners include baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, or lemons/lemon juice.
Another quick tip: be sure to wash your windows on an overcast or otherwise cloudy day. Sunshine frequently dries up the cleaner a little too quickly before you're able to fully apply it, and leaves streaks on them in the process.
Let us know what's worked for you!
