Selecting a Lot

Whether you are looking in one of San Antonio’s established communities or planning to build on your own lot, location is key when shopping for a new home. But how do you go about choosing the right homesite for your custom build in the San Antonio area? Prioritize your needs

The most important factor in choosing the location of your future home is proximity to the amenities that matter to your family. This will determine the complexity of everyday routines around commutes and school drop-offs as well the feasibility of quick grocery or pharmacy stops on the way home. 

It may also behoove you to do some research into planned commercial and residential developments in the area. These will affect the future value of your custom home as the area around it expands and improves. 

Consider the costs

If you are building in an established community like Anaqua Springs Ranch or Monteola, you will pay a separate price for the home site before you start building there. This will be based on an average price per acre so it is important to think about the view you want to wake up to each day.

Do you want a tree-lined lot? A view of nearby water? Do you want to be more secluded in a lot set back from the entrance? These are all questions to consider before budgeting for the rest of your purchase. 

If you plan to build on your own lot in San Antonio or the Texas Hill Country, make sure to evaluate the layout of the lot. If there is bedrock, or hills that may need retaining walls, this can add to the preparation costs before you start building.
