We are almost halfway through the first month of the New Year, and if you have set New Year’s resolutions for yourself, you may find that you are hitting or missing them in your first two weeks in. If one of your goals was to de-clutter and organize your home more, then Weston Dean Homes, a premier
New Braunfels custom builder, has some great tips that can help you keep your organization goal for 2018.
Clutter is typically the #1 things that drives most people crazy in their homes. If you have said “I can’t find (insert anything you lose often),” then you know some common areas of your home that may need some organizing TLC.
If drawers are your nemesis because they overflow with too many items in your kitchen, then make it a goal to get some organization set for them. You can buy simple drawer organizers to keep everything in its place. You can also hang a pegboard in your kitchen or on the back of a cabinet, and hang utensils, spices, whatever it may be to allow for more storage space.
Closets are another place where it may be hard to find your favorite top, jeans, matching socks, you name it. Invest in the best organization pieces for your closet. Whether you need to invest in some stacking shelve organizers, a piece of furniture with drawers that can go in your closet, adding additional selves or racks, these things can be incorporated in any size closet and give you the additional space you need. Also, make sure once these items are in place you give everything its own destination and home to live in.
Next, if you seem to be leaving the house and forgetting the same things over and over, it might be time to create an organization system so you no longer leave your home without the things you need.
If you have a mudroom or an area over your back door, invest in an organizer that goes by the back door and can house all the things you need before walking out the door the next day.
For example, if you are planning to grab some directions, and umbrella, your sunglasses and keys before you leave for work in the morning, put all those items in your organization cubby by the back door so you can crab them on your way out in the morning and they are all there and ready to go.
Lastly, if laundry is something that haunts you each week or you find family members complaining about because you didn’t wash their soccer uniform or something they needed for the upcoming weekend, bring some organization to your laundry room and give every member of your family a chore to be acceptable for their own clothing.
In your laundry room, set out baskets for colors, whites and any other bin you may need for towels, bedding, and so on. Then, make sure each member of the family puts their clothes in the correct basket as needed. If someone needs something washed or the basket is full, then you can simply just toss what is in each laundry basket in your washer and keep track accordingly. That way, if a soccer uniform doesn’t get washed it is because it was not put in the place it needed to be when the wash was being taken care of. It helps bring some discipline as well to kids who may have a hard time getting their clothes in the laundry basket.
These simple steps can add up to big results when used consistently and can bring much more peace and organization to your new year!
