Avoid Holiday Debt
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving was already a week ago, and there is less than a month until Christmas. The holiday season is quickly unfolding and many have probably started or are close to starting their Christmas shopping. However, the holidays often come a lot of additional expenses. From gifts for friends and family to traveling, the extra expenses can quickly add up to a lot of debt if you aren’t careful. Weston Dean Custom Homes, a premier New Braunfels Custom Builder
, shares tips on how not to go into debt this holiday season.
First, do your self a huge favor and set a holiday budget. It is far to easy to get in th habit of spending mindlessly during the holidays but if you have a set plan and budget to begin with, your wallet will thank you come January 1st
Start with a detailed list of your gift giving obligations and set a budget for each expense. Start by making a list of all the people you need to purchase gifts for, and then setting a budget per person. From there, make a list of the other holiday obligations you have such as holiday parties, family events, work events and traveling. It is also a good idea to put any charitable obligations you plan on contributing too, because those add up also.
After you have a master list of all the expenses you have this holiday season, set aside a budget for each one. By knowing exactly how much you have to spend for each item on your list, you can plan out the best way to keep your budget in tact before you set foot inside a store.
If your budget is running low or is tight this holiday, consider giving gifts that don’t cost money. Examples of this could be gifts of service like babysitting, offering to do landscaping or handiwork, and things along those lines that you could be useful for.
These tips can help keep both your budget and stress level in tact this holiday season, and have you resting easier come New Years.
