Furniture tips: Starting over or starting new

February 2, 2017

Whether you are purchasing your new home and wanting to start with a clean slate or you are starting a new chapter in your life and wanting to do the same, when it comes to furniture it can be difficult to know where to start and what all you need when starting from ground zero. Weston Dean Custom Homes, a premier Boerne custom home builder, gives you a go-to guide on what to get for your new home to start your new home off right. Although it may seem overwhelming, buying furniture for your new home can be a more streamlined process when you have the right steps and process in place. A great first step is to figure out what kind of budget you want to spend on your new furniture and then figure out the style you want to go for in your new home. Although once you have your budget and overall style inspiration, it can be tempting to go out and go on a shopping spree and buy everything for your new home all at once. However, this is not the best thing for you to do if you. It is best to wait until you have your keys and move into your new home to get yourself familiar with it, before jumping in and investing on a lot of furniture. Since you will live in your new home for the foreseeable future, you want to take your time and get to know how your home feels and functions before getting it all decked out with furniture and décor. Take some time to sit in different rooms and imagine how you will like to use that room in the future. Where will you want to sit? What would be most comfortable? What type of furniture would you enjoy to have in each room of your home? Getting to know your home before purchasing furniture will help to ensure that you don’t make any furniture faux-pas in what you purchase and help allow you to feel more confident in what you need to buy for your new home. The next step once you get into your home, get a feel for what you want and where, will be to setup your timeline and budget. There are so many furniture stores to shop, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. It is most helpful to start online and look and see what local stores have furniture in and around your budget. The next thing you will want to plan is what you need to buy and when. Do you need to break out your furniture budget over a month or two, or do you want to buy everything within the same week? Then, decide what you need to buy first. Your “must have” items to live in your new home will need to take priority. Then, you can move on to secondary items and the details once you have your core components in place. Although this may not be the most fun step in the process, it is important to shop around. You may have your heart set on a particular furniture set at the first location you look but do the due diligence of taking your time and shopping around to make sure that each piece of furniture you buy is the one you like the most and you have no doubt in your mind because you have stopped around and seen what else is out there. Going through this furniture buying process will help you ensure that you end up with furniture you love and will use in your new home for years to come, while also being conscious of your budget at the same time.     Weston Dean Homes is a San Antonio area custom home builder.  For more information call (210) 408-9107.
