Maintenance Tips to Keep Your House Pristine

Categories: Homeowner Tips, San Antonio Custom Homes | Posted: April 19, 2019

We know you San Antonio homeowners love your Weston Dean home, but the truth is that time is a home’s worst enemy. Though your home is built to withstand the test of time, there are a few simple things you can do to keep your house looking like the day you bought it.

First, there are several routine maintenance measures you should consider on a yearly or as-needed basis. Test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors at least every six months and replace any dead batteries immediately. Have your fireplace cleaned and replace your furnace filters yearly. Have your air conditioning unit inspected annually as well.

Checking on each of these items and testing appliances will help you avoid costly, unexpected repairs that are easily avoidable with routine maintenance.

Your floors are a great place to start protecting your home. Buff out any scratches and wax the wood floors to keep everything looking bright, shiny, and new. Tile and linoleum will benefit from a good scrubbing to prevent excess grime from building up over time and dulling down a room. Treat stains immediately and have the carpets professionally cleaned every so often.

Check your washer and dryer, fridge, and oven for leaky hoses, dirty filters that need replacing, and any other general maintenance they require. Having clean filters and working hoses not only means things will work correctly, but that you’ll be safe from fire and other hazards.

Clean and repair any broken window screens so you can enjoy some fresh air year-round. While you’re examining the windows and doors for broken screens, keep some WD-40 on hand to tackle any creaky hinges and check for any lining that needs to be re-caulked.

There are plenty of ways to keep your Weston Dean home fresh outdoors, too. Clean the gutters each fall and spring to ensure drainage can occur as it was designed to. Keep your landscaping neat by developing a green thumb or consider hiring a neighborhood kid or professional services to cut your lawn. Trim back overgrown hedges and trees and always make sure your mailbox, house number, and public street signs are visible from the road and your driveway.

Rent a power washer for a day and go to town on your siding; make sure to follow all safety precautions and only use the washer for its intended use to avoid injury or harm to your property. If after the power wash your siding seems a little uninspired, consider repainting your home. A new coat of paint should only be necessary every 6-8 years, thanks to San Antonio’s mild climate.

If you follow these easy home maintenance tips, your Weston Dean house will look brand new for years to come!

Why Build a Custom Home?

Categories: Custom Home Design, San Antonio Custom Homes | Posted: December 26, 2018

ConstructionTestimonialThere are so many options when it comes to housing.  People can rent an apartment, town home, duplex, or single family home.  Some families might consider buying a resale house.  Other homebuyers ask themselves, “Should I buy a new home?”  There’s another option: owning your very own custom home.  Many people skip over this last option because they believe it’s either too expensive, too much work, or some other bit of reasoning.  But Weston Dean Custom Homes, a premier New Braunfels custom builder, assures you that not only can it be affordable, it’s a wonderful investment for you and your family for years, even generations.

So… Why build a custom home?

You get what you want
Many times home buyers have to settle for the “best possible” option rather than the “perfect for me” one.  Sometimes a home is just a little too small, or not quite in the location you had hoped for.  Perhaps another buyer swept in on a home and made an offer before you could.  With a custom home, you have control over the entire process from your choice of builder, home site location, budget, floor plan, features and amenities within the home, and much more.  Production builders frequently have their personal “style” of floor plan and a limited number of options, too.  Custom builders look at every new home as an opportunity to reflect the desires and personality of the home buyer, creatively using architectural means to craft a home to be as aesthetic as it is practical and functional for every day use.  Rest assured that your home isn’t just another “project” for us at Weston Dean.  We take it as seriously as you do.

Location, location, location
As we mentioned before, when renting or even buying a new or pre-owned home, it’s very likely that you’ll be limited on some level.  Either you’ll be able to get the view you’ve always dreamt of, or you’ll reside within 1 mile of high quality education for your children.  When you build a custom home, you search for the perfect lot, home site, or piece of land upon which to build.  You no longer have to settle for “good enough.”  Weston Dean builds in custom home communities all over the San Antonio area; we’re not limited to just one.

For instance, take a look at 1829 Bardolino, a home that could very well be where you and your family call home! This home is in the highly sought after Vintage Oaks neighborhood.  Residents of this neighborhood enjoy amenities including the famous Schlitterbahn Water Park, sailing on Canyon Lake, numerous area golf courses, the unique charm of historical Gruene, and the Tanger Outlet Center in San Marcos—the third-largest tourist destination in Texas and noted as one of the top shopping stops in the country. Even closer to home is the Dry Comal Creek Vineyard, located just adjacent to Vintage Oaks.
